The EPD Programme for Steel Industry Chain is an organization organized by the China Iron and Steel Association and led by the Chinese steel industry, and was officially launched on May 19, 2022, with the participation of upstream and downstream steel industry enterprises, research institutes, and third-party organizations. The organization aims to standardize quantitative environmental impact data across the entire life cycle of upstream and downstream steel industries, promote green and low-carbon transformation of related industries, and support the achievement of the “dual carbon goal(carbon peaking and carbon neutrality)”. As of June 2025, the organization has issued a total of 230 EPD reports, and the number of registered organizations has exceeded 6,500. It has the largest collection of steel-related data in the world and is leading the way in the disclosure and sharing of international environmental performance information. It also aims to provide an integrated environmental performance assessment and reporting system for the entire steel industry. International mutual recognition is one of the core development strategies of the organization, and with its rapid growth, it has received wide attention and recognition from EPD organizations around the world. In 2024, MOUs were signed with International EPD(Sweden) and EPD Italy(Italy).

EPD Networks is a third-party certification body registered in the United States that provides transparent and reliable environmental performance information to companies and end users in North America and the European Union. The organization was established in 2023 and is operated by a technical committee and secretariat comprised of experts from universities, manufacturers, and third-party certification bodies. This MOU is expected to inject new vitality into the sustainable development of the industry by promoting international environmental cooperation and information exchange across the steel industry and providing companies with a more efficient and practical international certification path.

After signing the MOU, the two sides discussed the core mutual recognition contents such as GPI and PCR, LCIA methodology, LCA tool, verification procedures and checklists, and the direction of global cooperation.
